Chase seemed tired as he started pitching the bottom of the sixth. He walked the first batter again, then got the next one to hit a sharp grounder to Andy. Andy scooped, pivoted, and threw to second. Ricky came across the bag just as he caught it, and in one motion, make the throw across to Eddie at first. But the throw came in high, and Eddie had to leap to catch it, pulling him off the base. The runner was safe.

“Jeez! Make the throw!” Chase said under his breath. Eddie didn’t think Coach Haffner or Chase’s dad had heard it, but looking at the glare Ricky was giving him, he knew the shortstop had.
