Excerpt from The Season’s Not Over

Below is an excerpt from my youth sports novel, The Season’s Not Over, available on Amazon:

Chase got in the box again. The next pitch came in belt high and on the inside part of the plate. Chase jumped back and dropped his bat.

“Strike!” Coach Haffner yelled. “You’re gone too!”
“No way!” Chase yelled. “It almost hit me!”
“That wasn’t even on the corner,” Coach said. “It was all

white. Go on out there.”
“That was a ball!” Chase’s eyes were moist. He stomped over

and tossed his bat down by the dugout. He snatched his mitt angrily as if it had struck him out, then ran out into the field. Coach Haffner was watching him carefully.

“Chase-you forgot something.” Coach told him.

“What?” Chase asked heatedly. Then he reached his hands to his head and realized he’d forgotten to take his helmet off.

A couple of the players laughed but not too loudly. Eddie just looked at the ground and smiled a little. He knew that if Chase threw the helmet, Coach would probably lose his patience. Chase must have known it too, because even though he was still mad, he just ran over and placed the helmet on the rack and then ran back out onto the field.
